Design Director

Job Description

We’re looking for a talented and ambitious Design Director to help lead and build our studio team. Driven and motivated, you’ll play a key role in the studio with a proactive, hands-on approach; you’ll be comfortable leading on projects, setting creative direction and managing other designers.

Working closely with the leadership team and reporting to the Creative Director, you will inspire brilliant creative execution and have the confidence to lead client meetings and presentations. 

You’ll be an integral part of the team, delivering high quality digital and print design solutions for a diverse range of clients across different sectors for brands both large and small.

You’ll be a confident and inspired creative, who will contribute creative and strategic thinking in client meetings with the commercial and conceptual awareness to always deliver the best possible solution. We need an all-round designer that can confidently tackle any brief and elevate our creative output.

Skill-set and experience

  • Ability to interpret and interrogate client briefs to deliver exceptionally effective creative solutions
  • Ability to lead projects and inspire those around you
  • Costing projects and commercial understanding
  • Thorough attention to detail – from pixel-perfect positioning to spelling and grammar
  • Be a brand guardian for clients with a strong knowledge of best design standards
  • Proactively independent, actively assist all members of the team when you have capacity and seek solutions to a range of challenges
  • Lead and develop other members of the design team
  • Ability to make well thought-out, autonomous creative decisions
  • Strong communication skills with both clients and members of the team
  • Positive, can-do attitude. Takes direction and constructive criticism well 
  • Get the best out of designers with considerdered QA processes
  • Keeps up to date with creative trends and enjoys sharing with the wider team
  • Adapt to focus on priority projects and last minute requirements whilst working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of accountability and pride in their work
  • Experience in animation and video is advantageous

What makes you brilliant?

  • Minimum 6 years experience in an agency environment
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the wider creative team and respective project managers
  • Great problem solving skills and the ability to think strategically
  • Self-disciplined, proactive and unafraid of sharing new ideas
  • Always keen to hunt out the latest design trends
  • Accuracy and meticulous attention to detail
  • Thrive in high pressure
  • Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite – Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and XD
  • Knowledge of After Effects / other industry recognised animation tools
  • Experience in Microsoft Office
  • Apple Mac user 
  • Relevant bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field
