At Creative Sponge, we manage a huge variety of projects – from logo and brand development to video shoots; website design, development and UX reviews; and social media management to printed collateral.
In order to ensure we manage these products efficiently, on time, and to budget, we rely on the skills of our Delivery Manager – Abi Murr.
Abi has been part of the Creative Sponge team for two-and-a-half years, starting as Account Executive and progressing to Delivery Manager at the beginning of 2019. Here we run through her day-to-day responsibilities and how tasks work together to create the best possible experience for our clients.
Q. What’s the role all about?
A. I’m here to protect the process, maximise efficiency through the team, and, ultimately, to enable great work! My day-to-day tasks involve balancing and prioritising project deadlines, managing resources and suppliers, shuffling our work schedule for the studio and development teams, and making sure everyone knows what’s next to action. All of these things mean that we can give clients the best possible experience when working with us.
Q. Why is process important and how do you ensure the team follows it?
A. Managing and protecting the process behind our projects means our team can concentrate on creativity and are able to work to their full potential without having to worry about background administration. This year I became APM qualified – I’m excited to evolve our working practices to incorporate my training.
Q. So it’s your job to give everyone the opportunity to produce great work?
A. A Delivery Manager should ensure people are working to their strengths. They calculate any risks on projects and tackle issues before they affect things. Thinking about anything that can go awry helps us prepare and plan for things before they happen as, inevitably, all projects have their hurdles. Tackling these things and ensuring the team has the necessary resources in place allows them to work at their best.
Q. So communication must be a really important skill for you?
A. Managing the work schedule for our studio and development teams means I have sight of all project milestones and deadlines. It’s important for these to be communicated between the relevant project teams so everyone knows what we need to achieve and when. I also facilitate daily scheduling meetings and project team catch-ups wherever necessary to ensure everyone is on the same page, and our projects run smoothly as a result.
Q. What’s the best part of your role?
A. I enjoy having sight of all projects running through the agency. I love the work our team produces and it’s great to be able to allow the guys to do this without them having to worry about the granularity of project management. Many of our projects also cross between the design and development teams, so it’s good to be an extra bridge between them to ensure everyone is in the loop about what needs to happen next.
Q. What have been the most enjoyable and successful projects you have worked on?
A. Any project that has run efficiently, to budget, and exceed client expectations and KPIs is always enjoyable! Three of my favourites are below – these show our creativity and understanding of the client’s brief, but were also really well planned and executed.
